Product Care
Natural materials and considered objects require considered care.
The materials used across Elizabeth Lopes pieces vary considerably, from natural minerals and metals to textiles and other specialist materials. Appropriate care will therefore depend on the individual piece.
Please refer to any care information supplied with your purchase and, where relevant, the guidance below.
Natural Minerals & Stone
Natural minerals vary in hardness, porosity and sensitivity. Some stones may be affected by water, prolonged sunlight, heat, chemicals or abrasive cleaning products.
As a general precaution:
- Handle mineral specimens and stone components with care.
- Avoid knocks, drops and contact with abrasive surfaces.
- Keep away from harsh household chemicals and cleaning products.
- Do not immerse mineral pieces in water unless you know that the particular material is suitable for doing so.
- Use a soft, dry cloth for light surface cleaning where appropriate.
Variations, inclusions, natural fractures, textures and differences in colour are characteristics of natural stone and are not necessarily imperfections.
Jewellery & Metal Components
To preserve jewellery and metal finishes:
- Store pieces separately in a dry place when not in use.
- Avoid prolonged contact with water, perfume, cosmetics, oils and household chemicals.
- Remove jewellery before showering, swimming or exercising.
- Avoid abrasive surfaces that may scratch metal or stone.
- Clean gently with a soft, suitable jewellery cloth.
Plated finishes naturally change with wear over time. Contact with skin, moisture, cosmetics and chemicals can accelerate this process.
Where jewellery incorporates natural stone, care should also be taken according to the properties of the particular mineral.
Textiles & Apparel
Always follow the care label supplied with the individual garment or textile product.
Where a piece incorporates mineral, metal, embroidery or other decorative components, additional care may be required. Product-specific instructions will be included where appropriate.
Objects & Decorative Pieces
Mineral objects and decorative pieces should be handled carefully and placed on stable surfaces appropriate to their weight and form.
Natural specimens may contain delicate formations, points, edges or areas of natural fracture. Avoid unnecessary handling and take particular care when moving larger or heavier pieces.
For substantial mineral objects or sourced specimens, individual care guidance may be provided where appropriate.
Product-Specific Care
Some pieces require more specific care because of their construction or combination of materials.
Where this applies, instructions will be included on the relevant product page or supplied with the piece.
